Privacy policy

In short: there are no accounts and nothing to buy. We keep a log of visits and games for 90 days to run the game, count players, fix problems and keep spam bots out. We don't sell anything about you. Google Analytics runs only if you press Accept.
Who we are
Snowball Fight is a free online game at snowballfightonline.com, also offered as an app on Google Play. The app shows the same website, so this policy covers both. Questions or requests: contact@snowballfightonline.com.
What stays on your own device
- The name you type, your character, sound on or off, your settings for new rooms, your best score and how many games you have played.
- A random ID made by your browser, so we can count returning players without knowing who you are.
- A random key, so a room knows you when you come back: the game server remembers your score in that room for 10 minutes after you leave (not in the log). While you play, the room also keeps a short save of the players' keys and their scores, hits, outs and biggest ball, so a game carries on if the server restarts and you are back within 90 seconds. The room keeps only its latest save, which is no use after 90 seconds and is deleted the next time someone opens that room; for a room nobody opens again, that last save stays on the server.
- A second random code for your level, so the game knows whose XP it is. It is sent only to our game server.
- If a friend's invite link brought you, their invite code, until your progress is first saved, and which skin you wear.
- Your answer to the cookie banner, and which notices you closed.
- One cookie of our own,
sf_human, for 24 hours: it remembers that you passed the check against spam bots.
You can remove all of this by clearing the site's data in your browser, or by uninstalling the app.
What our server keeps, for 90 days
- Visits: when you open the game, that random ID and whether you are new, the page address and the link, campaign or site that brought you (with the friend's invite code when the link carried one), your language, screen size, the kind of device, its system and browser, and whether you use the installed app.
- Games: when you join and leave a room, the room code, the name and character you played under, your score, hits and other game stats, your connection delay (the delay at that moment and its average over your visit, on each record of a game), and why you left (left, closed, or connection lost). For a game played offline against bots in your browser: when it started and ended, why it was offline (you chose it, or your connection was slow or lost), your connection type, how long you played and your score. For a room you created, its settings and what you changed as its owner.
- Where you connect from: your internet address and what it points to: country, region, city and internet provider. Other players see only your country's flag.
- Problems: technical errors and connection problems the game noticed on your device.
- Bug reports you send: your text, your email address if you give one, the room, and the device details listed in the form: kind of device, model, system and its version, browser or app and its version, the game version, and the screen. Screenshots you choose to attach are emailed with the report and are not kept in this log; the log only notes how many. That email stays in our mailbox until we have dealt with it.
Rows older than 90 days are deleted automatically. Spam bots and link-preview robots are not logged.
To limit private-room abuse, the server counts new private rooms from a scrambled copy of your internet address. Daily counts stop applying at the next UTC day and are cleared on the next room-capacity check. Connection attempts count for one minute; their scrambled entries are cleared on a later attempt or when that server instance stops. Neither count is shown to other players.
Notifications, only if you turn them on
If you turn on Notifications and allow it, our server keeps the address your browser's push service gave this device, the keys to encrypt messages for it, your language, when you turned them on, and the random ID of this browser (the same one the activity log uses), so we can see which player name the notifications reach. We keep it until you turn notifications off, or until your browser stops taking them, and then delete it. The messages travel through your browser maker's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft).
Your level
To keep your level, our server stores your total XP and stars, how many games you finished and the last day you earned XP, under a scrambled copy of your level code (not the code itself or your address). It also keeps lifetime game counters for achievements (hits, walls, rounds won and the like) and the season badges you reached. For the weekly leaderboard it also keeps the name and character you last played with and this week's XP; the board shows those names to everyone. The collection shows your level code as a save code: keep it to yourself, since anyone with it can use your progress. Progress at or above 200 XP is kept indefinitely so your level stays; progress under 200 XP (100 of it the first day's bonus) is deleted after 90 days without play. Clear the site's data in your browser and nothing connects it to you any more: you start again at level 1.
Share the game, get a skin: your Share the game link can carry your invite code, a short code made from a scrambled copy of your level code (it cannot be turned back into it). When a new player arrives through it, our server keeps that code with their progress until they have played a few minutes, then adds one friend to yours and one more day of the scarf (we keep when your scarf time ends). It also keeps how many friends were counted for you that day. Neither the code's owner nor the friend is shown to other players. Since 28 Oct 2026 the activity log also keeps, with each visit and game, the invite code in the link that brought you and your own invite code, so the game's team can see which links bring players, including whose share link brought which player (shown only on the team's password-protected admin page, never to players); it is kept and deleted like the rest of the log (90 days). The log also notes that a friend's code was kept for a new player and that a friend was counted or why not (each with the invite code it came through, so the team can see whose link it was), when you share the game link (from which button, and whether it carried your code, never the link itself) and when you put on a skin, with the same visit details as other log entries. These are kept and deleted with your level, as above, except that progress with a friend counted is not deleted after 90 days, so your skin stays.
What other players see
Your name, your character, your country's flag and your scores in the room you are in. Don't use your real full name if you don't want others to see it.
Why we keep it
- To run the game: rooms, scores, reconnecting after a dropped connection.
- To see how many people play, for how long, and which links bring them.
- To find and fix problems, such as lag in a particular country or on a particular phone.
- To keep spam bots and abuse out of the rooms.
These are our legitimate interests in running a free game. Google Analytics is used only with your consent.
Services that help us
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the game server, stores the log, runs the check against spam bots (Cloudflare Turnstile) and forwards our email. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Sentry receives a report when something goes wrong in the game: the error and the steps just before it, your browser, system and device, the game's version, which link brought you and your country. Not your internet address, your name or your visitor ID. Sentry keeps reports for up to 90 days. See Sentry's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics, only after you press Accept: it counts visits, how people find the game and how they play. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google Play, if you install the app from there, under Google's own policy.
We don't sell data, we don't show ads at the moment, and we don't share the log with anyone else. Data is sent over encrypted connections.
Your choices and rights
- Change your cookie answer any time under About → Cookie choice in the game.
- Ask us what we keep about you, to correct it or to delete it: email contact@snowballfightonline.com with the name you played under and roughly when. There are no accounts, so this is how we find your rows.
- If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The game is meant for players aged 13 and over and does not ask for anyone's age, real name or contact details. If you think a child under 13 has sent us personal details, such as an email in a bug report, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes
When the game starts keeping something new, we update this page and the date at the top.
